Europsy is the abbreviation for the EFPA trademarked title of Registered European psychologist and represents a European benchmark standard of psychology knowledge and skills. It does not grant a license to practice, but can help to facilitate the mobility of qualified professionals across Europe. EuroPsy is a “European Certification in Psychology” which aims to provide a standard of academic and professional training that makes it known to clients, employers, and colleagues that a psychologist is believed to have acquired the skills to provide psychological services.
EuroPsy Guiding Principles
- promote the availability of adequate psychological services in Europe. Every citizen and every institution should be able to obtain psychological services from qualified and competent personnel, and the system should be supportive to achieve this goal;
- protect consumers and citizens in Europe through quality assurance and protect the public from unskilled service providers;
- promote the mobility of psychologists by allowing them to practice anywhere in Europe, as long as they have the appropriate qualifications;
- ensure that EuroPsy is granted on the basis of:
a) proven completion of an academic curriculum in psychology of sufficient scope;
b) demonstrated competence in the performance of professional roles during supervised practice;
c) subscription of national European ethical standards for European and national psychologists; - ensure that the EuroPsy system is fair and avoids favoring or disadvantaging psychologists on the basis of national differences or other differences in educational or professional background, and that it recognizes, as a prevailing principle, the high quality of the service. This implies that EuroPsy will not require specific requirements regarding the structure or format of academic training, or the nature and organization of the internship for professional practice;
- to ensure the qualification for the exercise of the profession of psychologist at the level of entry to the profession, and also subsequently.
- support the commitment to actively maintain competence. For this reason EuroPsy will be assigned for a limited period of time and may be renewed, again for a limited period of time, in the presence of evidence regarding continuity in professional practice and professional development;
- comply with current national regulations for psychologists.
